A Warm and Inviting Master Bath

Although this master bath was a suitably large space endowed with all possible fixtures it seemed drab, evoking the feeling of a neglected ballroom.

A visually interesting and welcoming space was created by reapportioning the space, moving the fixtures, adding large vanities and a makeup table, and changing to rich and elegant materials. The room is now a warm and inviting place to get ready for the day.

The focal point of the room became the new custom furniture-styled double vanities separated by a spacious make-up area, set in front of a large palladium window. These cabinets are well proportioned for the space. Their dark cherry finish complements the light Calcutta Vagli marble, a theme that is repeated in the tub surround and in the changing area.

The changing area cabinetry provides storage, and is visually appealing due to the varying heights and interesting molding details.

The shower, previously a small stall in a hidden and dark corner, is now a spacious affair with built-in shower seat, shadow boxes and a frameless shower enclosure.

An air-jetted Ultra tub replaced the oversized whirlpool with awkward steps.

Extra large floor tiles with a simple tile pattern were used to add visual interest and to further break up the space so that it didn’t seem too large. The warm tile colors were carried into the shower, where various sizes and color combinations were used to provide textural interest. Complementing colored glass tiles set off the tub surround and were used as highlights in the shower. Soft paint colors and towels tie everything together.

In order to allow the morning sun to stream into this room, an additional window was added next to the vanities, allowing the client to enjoy her garden while relaxing at the makeup area.
