A Bright Cheery Kitchen
The scope of this project was expanded considerably while under construction due to the customers’ delight with the appearance of the space and their desires to go beyond their initial objectives – a challenge that Clark Construction’s design and construction team gladly rose to, while still completing the project within the agreed upon time frame.
The kitchen and the family had been separated by a wall and both spaces seemed smaller and more cramped than they actually were. The existing wall was removed and the large opening framed with an arch and columns, separating the rooms and uniting them at the same time.
The kitchen area also contained an eat-in area that had been separated by a peninsula. In order to create a better flow, we abandoned the U-shaped kitchen set-up and ran the kitchen island parallel to the long window wall. The Latte cabinets create an aura of freshness and brightness, repeated in the creaminess of the granite, Colonial Gold. We moved the cook top to a more central location in close proximity to the sink, to cut down on travel time during cooking time for this busy homemaker.
The appliances are clad with custom panels: the custom hood, the dishwasher drawers, and the fridge are paneled with cabinetry to give the kitchen this warm and homey feeling, while all the luxuries a cook would wish for are available within easy reach.
Next to the cook top are double spice pullouts, providing for “at-your-fingertips” convenience..
The tile backsplash is quite elegant in its unobtrusive simplicity. During daytime, the rooms are flooded by natural light that is reflected by the colors of the cabinetry, tile, and woodwork. In the evenings, through the ample recessed lights, any mood can be created in the family room by using the Lutron Grafik Eye, which is programmed for various scenes.
The changed deck layout allows now for an easy flow from the kitchen area to the outside, ideal for long summer nights.
Taking all together, this remodel was very exciting and satisfactory for our customers, who love the understated elegance of their new rooms.
