This was originally a small but adequate “stuck-in-the corner” kitchen.
Much of the room was unused as traffic patterns convened there. Our
clients did not want to impinge on their much-used stone patio, so a
large addition was out of the question.
By adding on less than 100 sq. ft. for the table and revamping the deck,
the patio was retained. Moving the table away allowed the existing
kitchen space to be used more fully. A larger, untraditionally shaped
island which accommodates different functions such as food prep, a bar
area, and cookbook storage was added. The new kitchen has more work
areas close at hand, with more efficient localized storage than was
originally available. The vegetable prep sink is next to a set of
refrigerator drawers and the steamer. The duel fuel range has a pot
filler, and a warming drawer nearby. The pantry storage was moved into
the kitchen where it could be better utilized. Cabinets wrap around
into the bump out for a message center.
