Portfolio: Kitchens
This two-level island has angled sections, which provides for distinct
work areas. Having the angles also breaks it up visually, and precludes
it from seeming massive, although it would be 24’ long if you stretched
it out! It is balanced by the masses of the perimeter cabinets, and
seems “just the right size” and as if it has always been there. A mini
bar at the end of the island, complete with wine cooler and ice maker,
is close to the table and family room, making the island family and
entertaining friendly.
There is more entertaining flexibility - the island has seating for four
kids to do homework, or to watch dinner being prepared, and there is
enough stand around room at the island for a good sized wine tasting
party. The hutch's location and many drawers make table setting a
breeze. The pantries were relocated out of the mudroom and into the
kitchen, leaving space in the mudroom for luxurious storage - a place for
everything, and a bench where the kids can sit and put on their boots.
Soft soothing colors were chosen to make this a warm and peaceful space
- a latte finish was applied to the cabinets, and the Santa Cecelia
granite looks seamless. A bold touch of navy on the walls pulls
everything together without feeling too heavy.
