The original kitchen was primarily a corridor between two parts of the house, which for obvious reasons
did not work well for this family. The clients wished to have a central area in their home in which to
live, more storage capacity and more natural light.
Removing the wall between the dining room and the kitchen was the first step in achieving what was required.
The bi-level central island creates a close relationship between the two spaces – inspring a great room feeling
- a place in which multiple activities can happen concurrently. The kids enjoy art projects at a large
table while the Mom putters in the kitchen.
Walnut cabinets in a classic style make the kitchen stately and distinctive.
Storage was maximized through the particular cabinets selected; highlighted by a wine rack and glass fronted
wall cabinets for storage. Granite counters and subway tile coordinate with one another and offset the
beautiful grain of the cabinets. Lots of attention was paid to small details, such as the choice of hardware,
and coordination with the faucet.
The clients particularly enjoy the openness that brings abundant natural light into the new space, and the joys
of a kitchen that does all that they wanted and more.
