The Greatest Room
A formerly dark cluttered kitchen built around a structural post is opened up to the family room, creating a joyful mixed use space, where cooking and relaxing can occur simultaneously. It’s light and airy, everyone can be together and lightened up to become a joyful space, and the hub of this family’s time together .
The goal was to create a more open gathering space with a kitchen capable of preparing meals for large family gatherings. Our designers approached it with an eye toward modernizing and improving functionality of the kitchen without sacrificing the historical flavor of the home.

Opening up between the two rooms and making them contiguous changed how the spaces feel. Transoms were added to increase the amount of light and taller longer wider windows helped give the right balance of light filled and airy, and warm and welcoming. Plus great views!
What was once a dated and crowded family room is now an inviting, functional living space anchored by a custom built-in media wall. The deep navy cabinetry adds contrast and sophistication, while open shelving and integrated lighting create warmth and balance. A thoughtful redesign that makes the room as beautiful as it is comfortable.
