Counterbalancing Geometric Shapes in a Contemporary Master Bath

The Concept
Renovate an outdated master bath to create a peaceful contemporary retreat, taking inspiration from artworks from the client’s many trips to Asia
Custom millwork reminiscent of a classic shoji screen graces the large window and is repeated on the vanity doors.
The design was a play on geometric shapes, balancing circles and squares. They’re different, yet flow seamlessly together as they play off on another.
Chrysalis award winner, judged on overall design, as well as the creative use of space and materials.

Selections
Creative use of quartz allowed for the creation of a tub platform that holds its own against the oversized design elements of the focal wall. It was built to look as if it were carved from a solid block of stone. This thick block look was repeated in the vanity tops, with semi-recessed sinks mimicking the shape of the tub.
Glass tile mosaic adds a touch of color and reintroduces the window's shape elsewhere in the space.
"Our designer did a great job. We struggled with the millwork decision on paper at presentation but it is now our favorite design element. We were amazed at how much larger the space feels by reducing the tub platform and impressed when we found out that the new tub platform is not a solid piece of stone."
